7 Ways to Beat Stress At Work

  • Focus on an image of something that gives you the experience of awe: Imagine a sunset, picture the face of someone you love, recall watching your child walk for the first time. Hold this image for as long as you wish.
  • Close your eyes or gaze at your hands on your lap and inhale while you count silently to four. Take a little pause and then exhale, counting down from four. Do this at least 10 times.
  • Imagine the sun is shining golden light upon you, creating a glowing shield that holds you and comforts you. You can imagine the faces of people whom you love as your shield. Hold this image as long as you wish.
  • With any of the above exercises, you can repeat these words silently as often as you wish: "The support I need is here. I am loved and valued."
  • Imagine support is coming up from the earth, in through your feet, and up through your body and arms as you rise from your chair and stretch for the sky. As you stretch, inhale and exhale deeply, repeating the phrase above.

  • Call or plan to meet someone who cares about you for support. Make sure you let them know that you do not want advice (unless you do), you just want support and someone who will listen.
  • Think of something funny or watch something funny on the Internet. Allow yourself to laugh for several minutes. It always helps when you take life less seriously, even if only for a moment.

How Do You Deal with Heartbreak? Part I

Heartbreak is difficult and not something that is easily " gotten over", nor should it necessarily be. Many of us spend years searching for our lifelong spouse and once we (think we) locate "that" person, we open our heart and lives to them in an attempt to love and be loved. When our feelings are not reciprocated in the way we hope or want, we are brokenhearted and need to take a period to heal, in our our time and in our own way.

What we all have discovered through " trail and error" (a.k.a dating) is that most relationships don't work out (surprise!), and it would be beneficial for us to learn from and learn how to manage break-ups since we may encounter them again. For many of us, it is a day to day journey of struggle, heartache, emotions and growth. Some journeys will be easier than others and some may last longer than others. However, your journey can and will lead you to peace if you refrain from holding onto bitterness, spite, envy, jealousy and anger against your former mate. You have to make sure that you do not become judgmental towards your former mate.

Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37

We may "think" we are hurting someone by having ill feelings toward them. In reality, we are only hurting ourselves by delaying our grieving, healing , forgiving and growing process. We shouldn't be acting or reacting like those of the world (and as we see on television reality shows), but rather living according to the instructions the Lord gives us in His Word.

Our life will not be neutral

[Jesus said] "You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16
Thoughts on today's verse
Our life will not be neutral. We will either point others away from God or show them that allegiance to God is important. Let's make an intentional effort today to shine the light of God's holiness and grace in all we do and say.
Prayer:
O God, may the words of my mouth, the actions of my life, and the influence of my deeds show others your holiness and grace and lead them to acknowledge your majesty and might. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Little by Little

"All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty"(Prov 14:23).

Is there something you would like to accomplish in life but simply cannot find the hours in the day to get started? Many of us suffer from procrastination. We justify putting our dreams aside because we don't believe we have the time or resources to accomplish the task.

Many times people tell me they believe they are called to write a book. I tell them, "Great, if God has called you to write a book, begin to write it." Sometimes the response is: "But I don't have a publisher." "That has nothing to do with it," I say. "That is not your problem. If God calls you to write a book, you are to begin to write. You may not be writing to get published. You may be writing for other purposes."

"The LORD your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little" (Deut 7:22). If God has given you a vision to do something, begin by taking baby steps toward that project. Begin to focus on the vision and take action steps toward it. Many times people ask me, "How in the world do you have time to write? You travel so much and seem to have such a full schedule." My answer to them is that I have a specific time of day in which I commit to writing. It is usually between 5 AM and 8 AM. I have found this to be my most creative and productive time. Very little can get in the way of this time if I believe God has given me a project to do.

You will be amazed at what God can do with a little each day. Do not let procrastination prevent you from accomplishing what God may want to do through your life. Make plans today to take baby steps toward the vision that is in your heart.

Love

Our love depends on the receiver of the love. Let a thousand people pass before us and we will not feel the same about each one of them. Our love will be regulated by their appearance, by their personalities. Even when we find  a few people we like, our feelings will fluctuate. How they treat us will affect how we love them. The receiver regulates our love. Not so with God. We have not thermostatic impact on his love for us. His love is uncaused and spontaneous. He loves us because of his goodness, kindness and great faith.

The father himself loves you, He loves you because you loved me and believed that I came from God. John 16:27

Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of Knowledge Proverbs 23:12

The people most likely to gain knowledge are those who are willing to listen. Listening is a sign of strength, not weakness. To pay attention to what others have to say gives you an up on the non listener. People who are eager to listen continue to learn and grow through their lives. If we refuse to listen we become set in our ways and that will only hinder our growth but if we refuse to become set in our ways, we can always expand the limits of our knowledge.

Phenomenal Woman That's me... What about you?

"Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,That's me."- Maya Angelou

"The purpose of ritual for men is to learn the rules of power and competition. Watching sports together, for example, they see the formal enactment of ritual, become loyal to a team, learn to conceal their vulnerability. The purpose of ritual for women (going to lunch together, sharing a favorite salon, etc.) is to learn how to make human connections. They are often more intimate and vulnerable with one another than they are with their men, and taking care of other women teaches them to take care of themselves. In these formal ways, men and women domesticate their emotional lives. But their strategies are different, their biological itineraries are different. His sperm needs to travel, her egg needs to settle down. It's astonishing that they survive happily at all."

We know it isn't about the important things, but they think so. So we let them. We take care of them so that they can go on playing....' What grandma did not tell us is that men are capable of something altogether different.... But even though men are untapped wells of potential, they will not move forward if women continue to subsidize the status quo."

Superwoman Complex- The Godless Proverb 31 Woman Part IV

Superwoman Tries to Be Perfect.
A lot of Christian women think of the Proverbs 31 woman as a type of Superwoman. She’s Susie-homemaker, smart, good with money, can sew, and her husband and children think she’s the best. She’s perfect!
God requires His daughters to be like that, right? Aren’t all those things in Scripture? They are and God does want them from us but there’s a big difference between Superwoman and the Proverbs 31 woman. The difference is: God.
You can do all the actions of the Proverbs 31 woman but if your heart isn’t God-centered then you’re just a Superwoman destined to fail. God knows that only He and His Son, Jesus Christ are perfect, so why are we trying to be perfect in every area? Is it so you’ll appear to be the most talented girl in the dorm, the best wife in your small group, or the most desirable single woman? Unfortunately, I’ve been guilty of all these “Me”-driven motives. The Superwoman complex is centered on: Self.
God does not value outward perfection, awards, or praises from man like we do. The only thing God requires is that we seek Him and fear Him, like the Proverbs 31 woman (Prov. 31:30). God doesn’t call us to be Superwomen; he calls us to be godly women.
When you put your long to-do lists and full schedules on His shoulders the burden is much lighter because He’s carrying it for you (Matt. 11:28). He knows you can’t handle the weight of being Superwoman. You’ll collapse under it, like I did.
If you have been like the Proverbs 31 woman, putting everything in God’s hands, thank you! You’ve been an example to your sisters and we need more women like you. I pray I become more like you and less like Superwoman.
So let’s all take off the cape and let God save the day!
This is what the world wants to conform us as but we don't have to be Superwoman

Real Women Please Stand Up!!!

"A new kind of woman with deep-rooted values is changing the way we live. Market researchers call it 'neo-traditionalism.' To us it's a woman who has found her identity in herself, her home, her family.... She is part of an extraordinary social movement that is profoundly changing the way Americans look at living—and the way products are marketed. The home is again the center of American life, oatmeal is back on the breakfast table, families are vacationing together, watching movies at home, playing Monopoly again. Even the perfume ads are suddenly glorifying commitment."

Superwoman Complex- The Godless Proverb 31 Woman Part III

Superwoman Thinks She Can Save the Day.
When you try to be a superhero, there’s no room for God to save the day. I thought I could do it all on my own and, foolishly, I thought I didn’t need God’s help. I was the controller of my life, not God. When He is not your center, when He is not in control, your life will not be peaceful or successful (Prov. 3:5-6).
If you’re trying to be Superwoman, you will eventually fail and break down (Prov. 14:12), but when God is in control, there is peace and rest. I was putting my trust in myself which seems pretty stupid when I think about it, because I’m a sinful, simpleton of a woman. Why was I trusting in that kind of person when I have a Savior who is perfect (Ps. 18:30), loving, strong, in control of the entire world and wants to do good for me (Deut. 30:16, Ps. 37:4-5)? That’s who I want to save the day!

Superwoman Complex - The Godless Proverbs 31 Woman Part II

Superwoman is Too Busy for God.
At the end of every day being “Superwoman,” I was exhausted and needed a good night’s sleep to be able to save the day again. I told God, “I’m too busy for you. I have to do everything tomorrow and need my sleep so I can’t read your Word.” The way God was going to speak to me and bring me peace, contentment, and joy was what I was rejecting. Scripture breathes life into our souls and I was becoming spiritually and physically exhausted without it.
The Proverbs 31 woman is refreshed daily, speaks with wisdom, and is exemplary because she seeks the source of all wisdom and faithful instruction….God. (Prov. 31:24). I was doomed for failure as Superwoman because I didn’t have the one thing that would revive my soul everyday (Ps. 19:7). Rather than trying to be Superwoman, I needed to be more like the Proverbs 31 woman, seeking the Lord and His Word, which brings light to the eyes and joy to the heart (Ps.19:8).

Superwoman Complex- The Godless Proverb 31 Woman Part I

Superwoman complex: A woman’s desire to be excellent at all her roles (leader, professional, mother, wife, etc.), that often leads to psychological stress or an expectation of being a Superwoman that can and should do everything.
A few years ago if you would have looked this term up in the dictionary, my picture would have been next to it. I  had been functioning in that capacity for so long that I did not realize I fit into this category until a few years ago. I was a single mother, working out every way, involved in church ministry, commuting over 150 miles a day round trip , working 50+ hours a week, reading every self-help book under the sun, trying to be a friend, daughter, and the perfect mother and I was entering back into the dating world. I was exhausted! Until one day I finally broke down.
Why was I so upset, so exhausted? My children were well fed, the house was clean, I was making good money, I loved my job. It seemed like I was doing what the Proverbs 31 woman is supposed to do, so why was I breaking down? What’s wrong with being Superwoman?
